25 Aug 2014 : Bermuda
We did our rounds yesterday and I stayed behind on the pier
while hubby had to be back for a safety meeting at 16h00. I was watching these
islanders playing with a jet ski, attached to it is a long pipe that blows a
guy into the air. He has a pair of shoes on that look like ice skating boots
and was amazing to watch. Their balance and moves are quite something, did not
take photos but next time I will. Did post a photo when I was in the Caribbean, so should still be on my blog, same
thing, these guys just do more tricks and moves.
The islands people
are very religious and most places are closed on Sundays. You may not walk
around in your costume in public places and have to cover up. Went to the glass
factory to show hubby but only the gift shop was open and not the glass blowers
part of the factory, so will be back next time he is off.
Late afternoon we got of the ship, to go for a walk and
hubby took me on the route he takes, when he goes for his run. What a great
surprise, walked all along the harbour area until we got to an area where the locals
live. Took a photo to show you, semi-detached houses painted in the most beautiful
colours.
Must admit have discovered, a few old buildings that need a
makeover!! Will post pictures of them too, they do look spooky!!Would love to
know why they do not fix them. They are in the most amazing places and have
views to die for. Can just imagine what they must have looked like in their
heyday.
Must have walked for about 4/5 km when we got to a graveyard
with beautiful grass, ancient tombstones, and the only living things, chickens walking
about!!!. On these tombstones they also put the work you did and how you died,
different to what we are used to. Then on the other side of the road we got our
spot in paradise, an open piece of ground with lovely grass ,trees, benches and
a view over the sea, a little beach and no one in sight, all to ourselves.
Took some lovely photos without hubby knowing!!! And will
post those and got at least 2 of him with me and on his own .Met sy kop
gesmokkel en net gese moet hier fotos neem, ongelooflike kans en uitsig, seker
besluit gaan nie vamiddag vasskop oor die fotos nie.
So we had a lovely evening just lying on the grass,
overlooking the sea on a Sunday evening, on an island in the middle of this
huge ocean. Definitely one of my high lights, so far. On our way back to ship
we had to stop at the frozen yogurt shop to get our yogurt fix for the day!!
Well, after all that fresh air, I slept like a baby.
This morning I decided to be good and hit the gym with big
plans, going to have a proper workout, and proud to say did exactly that. Must
say feeling a lot better and aches and pains are gone. Not back to 50 of each
exercise but will get there. Has been raining and hubby working all day, so
decided not to get of the ship.
For lunch we all went to the Garden Café so that was great
eating with the whole medical team. Then we got the news over the PA system!!
The ship has to leave Bermuda earlier than planned because a tropical storm is
on its way to Bermuda!! So instead of leaving Bermuda at 16h00 on Tuesday we
have to leave the island at 6h00 on Tuesday morning, 10 hours before we were
due to. But as the Captain says, safety comes first. Feel sorry for the
passengers because they have had terrible weather and rain so far. One thing
that definitely makes or breaks a holiday is the weather. You have paid for
this holiday in the sun on a beautiful island and all it does is rain. We were
just lucky to have a break yesterday afternoon.
Well until next time,bye
